Dear Prof. Kannai:

Sorry for the delay in answering about Shapiro, but that was
quite a stack of papers you sent me.

I am not able to answer as confidently as I did to the Weizmann
Institute inquiry in 1983. This is because his scientific interests
have diverged from mine too much for me to be motivated to read most
of the papers you sent me. In particular, I have not followed his
or anyone's work on parallel logic programming.

In fact, the only work I can speak to is his book with Sterling
on Prolog. On the whole it seems to be about the best text on Prolog,
although the sample programs seem to have a few bugs.

I had hoped to interact with him more on his visit to Stanford,
but our divergence of interests has been such that we only really talked
about the afore-mentioned bugs.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

\closing
Sincerely,

John McCarthy
